Patrick McGrath

Dr. McGrath has over 25 years of varied post-graduate professional and academic experience in the construction industry primarily focusing on the evaluation and restoration of existing structures, and the design, formulation and specification of materials to meet specific requirements.

Experience in concrete construction includes assessment and repair of reinforcing steel corrosion damaged structures, specialized concrete mix design, expert witness and failure analysis, and service life assessment.

In the field of building science Pat McGrath has completed restoration projects on existing buildings, both historic and more recent. Some of the types of cladding systems include solid stone masonry, stone cladding, brick masonry, concrete block masonry, hollow clay tile, glass block, pre-cast concrete, cast in place concrete, metal cladding, stucco, vinyl and cedar siding. Specialist areas include second opinion review and expert witness consulting on “leaky condo” remediation projects.

Dr. McGrath has published numerous papers in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings on such areas as: chloride diffusion into concrete, high performance concrete, influence of binder composition on concrete durability, moisture conditions related to freeze thaw durability, test methods for service life prediction models, service life specifications for concrete, portland cement stucco, below grade waterproofing and coatings and waterproofing systems for concrete.
